…when it comes to renters insurance, that is!

According to the Insurance Information Institute, only 37% of renters have renters insurance.  Why?

“My landlord has insurance, so I’m covered!”

That’s not necessarily true.

Landlords most likely have coverage for their building.  But what about the stuff inside?

Renters insurance can provide three key coverages:

1. Personal property – The items that fill your home, your clothing, furniture, and electronics, aren’t covered by your landlord’s insurance.  That’s where your renters policy would come in!

2. Liability – Do you like to entertain?  Have the occasional family member or friend over?  If they were ever injured on the property and you were considered responsible for the injury, renters insurance would provide a layer of liability coverage for the cost of their medical bills.

3. Additional living expenses – If the home you rent is damaged or deemed uninhabitable, temporarily living somewhere else can be costly.  Additional expenses, such as hotel costs, can be covered by a renters policy.
